Band Updates

The LC Jazz Band will be doing their “Spring Evening of Jazz” on Wednesday, May 3rd at 7:00 pm.  Remember, this concert will be taking place at the Little Theatre at the Fort, 8920 Otis Ave. on the Ft. Ben property (next to the Sterrett Center).  There is no admission charge for this concert but donations for the use of the facility would be welcomed.  Joining them will be the Belzer MS Jazz Band and special guests, the Naptown Jazz 5. We hope you can attend this exciting event!

The full Symphony Orchestra will rehearse from 4:00 to 5:30 pm on Monday, May 8 to prepare for their concert.

Camerata and Philharmonic will rehearse from 4:00 to 5:00 on May 10 to prepare for the concert that evening.

Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Camerata, Philharmonic and the Symphony Orchestra will present a concert on Wednesday, May 10 beginning at 6:00 in the LC Auditorium.

Next year’s version of the Symphony Orchestra (which will include several Wind Ensemble musicians) will be performing with Central Sound at Lawrence Central’s Commencement on Wednesday, June 7 at 7:00 pm. Students involved with LCSO will be getting rehearsal schedules and itineraries soon.

Beginning Band

This is a book-based class, that is designed to prepare students to advance to an intermediate group second semester.  Students participate in solo and ensemble activities to develop elements of musicianship, and are expected to take advantage of private lesson opportunities.  The students also have the opportunity to experience live performances by professionals during and outside of the school day.

Intermediate Band

The Lawrence Central Intermediate band will be expected to participate in two after-school rehearsals and three after-school performances in addition to the ISSMA District Solo and Ensemble Contest.  Students participate in solo and ensemble activities to develop elements of musicianship.  The students also have the opportunity to experience live performances by professionals during and outside of the school day.

Symphonic Band

The Lawrence Central Symphonic Band performs high school level literature in varying styles in five or six concerts, plus two to three festivals and/or contests throughout the school year.  Students participate in solo and ensemble activities to develop elements of musicianship.  The students also have the opportunity to experience live performances by professionals during and outside of the school day.

Wind Ensemble

The Lawrence Central Wind Ensemble performs college level literature in varying styles in five or six concerts, plus two to three festivals and/or contests throughout the school year.  Students participate in solo and ensemble activities to develop elements of musicianship.  The students also have the opportunity to experience live performances by professionals during and outside of the school day.

Pep Band

During the Lawrence Central basketball season, students enrolled in the concert and jazz bands participate in the Pep Band.  The pep band performs at all home basketball games.  Students are expected to participate in five or six performances throughout the season.

Jazz Ensemble

The Lawrence Central Jazz Ensemble performs in numerous festivals and concerts throughout the school year.  Students are provided with opportunities to experience live performances by professionals during and outside of the school day.  They also participate in a variety of small groups to enhance their experiences with jazz improvisation, music theory, aural/listening skills, and jazz styles.

Instrumental Ensemble

The Lawrence Central Instrumental Ensemble studies and performs percussion techniques through solo, chamber ensemble and large percussion ensemble literature.  Students perform with the Concert/Symphonic bands and Wind Ensemble.
