A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTORS
What it Means to be a Spirit of Central Parent and Fan...

The pride that goes with being a parent of a student in the Spirit of Central Marching Band and Guard also brings with it a sense of responsibility and dignity.  Being a positive Spirit of Central parent and fan means honoring the simple guidelines below:

  • Always be positive in the stands.  Never say bad things about other bands. They have worked every bit as hard as “our kids.” You never know who might be around to hear your comments and the harm they might cause
  • Be supportive of our students/your kids.  They have worked hard and deserve every bit of the support you can offer them during their performance.  Do not be afraid to applaud (loudly) for them during the show (at the end of impact moments for example, and when they come on to the field, and exit the field).  Along the same note, please never single any one child out by shouting their name.  Instead, support the entire group!
    .
  • Generally speaking, the students are always aware of how they performed.  They will always get a critical analysis from the staff.  Let the staff be the “bad cop.” Always look to support all of the students after shows.  Do not criticize other students about their performance.  Be the “good cop.”

  • We prefer that our performances speak for themselves.  Therefore, please avoid responding on the internet band sites to any comments on forums made about our band.   You will see many positive ones and a few negative ones.  Please avoid getting into a “war of words.”   Once you make your comments, the entire band has to suffer the repercussions.
    .
  • Never stream personal video of our performances on any website.  There are strict copyright guidelines and costs involved in getting permission to perform the music in a marching band show.  Posting video footage on the internet can be regarded as copyright infringement.
    .
  • Be supportive of all bands at award ceremonies.  Do not get into a “sour grapes” conversation in the stands.  It always leads to trouble for how our band, our school, and our parents/fans are perceived.

Be a Class Act!  All of our students need your support!

Thank You!
