About Lawrence Central High School Orchestras
Sonatina Orchestra
The Sonatina Orchestra is made up
of the intermediate and beginning orchestra classes, which meet during G1,
G2, or G4. They are a string ensemble comprised of nearly 70 members. This
group performs at all orchestra concerts, excluding the eighth grade side-by-side
performance each October. In the past, the Sonatina Orchestra has received
gold ratings at ISSMA Organizational in Group III and Group II.

Serenata
Orchestra/Lawrence Central Symphony Orchestra
The Serenata Orchestra is the
advanced orchestra class, and students meet during M5 or M7. This is a
string ensemble of nearly 50 members, combined with the top members of the
Wind Ensemble during the spring to become the Lawrence Central Symphony
Orchestra. They perform at all orchestra concerts, as well as special
performances throughout the year as large or small ensembles. Serenata has
been an ISSMA State Finalist for over 10 years, placing fourth at ISSMA
State Finals during the 2008-2009 school year.

Paul
Addison Young
is a native of Indianapolis
where he began cello lessons at the age of seven. As an active orchestra and
chamber musician, he has performed with the Indianapolis Philharmonic
Orchestra, Camerata Orchestra of
Bloomington,
Indiana University Ensembles, and
recently returned from a four month contract with Celebrity Cruises as
cellist of the Elan String Quartet. Active as an educator as well, Paul is a
co-founder and instructor of the Porterville Intensive String Workshop, and
recently joined both the Indianapolis Academy of Music and the Metropolitan
Youth Orchestra as a cello instructor. Paul’s unique style of teaching
incorporates a conglomeration of methodical approaches which allows him to
focus on the idea of flexible learning. He has studied cello pedagogy with
Dr. Helga Winold, and his primary instructors have been Vladimir Zukerman
and Emilio Colon, with whom he currently studies. Paul holds a Bachelor of
Music degree in cello performance from
Indiana
University, and is proud
to be a member of the American String Teachers Association and the American
Federation of Musicians, Local No.3. In his free time, Paul enjoys exploring
the culinary arts and creative writing.
